Dust Plumes Over the Mediterranean



NASA's Aqua Satellite captured this spectacular image of dust plumes streaming from the desert of Egypt out over the Mediterranean Sea on October 4, 2009.

The pale plumes of dust are carried by strong winds blowing from the southwest towards the northeast. The image shows the stark desert of Northern Egypt and the green western edge of the Nile Delta. moving towards the northeast over the Mediterranean Sea. The Egyptian desert is a frequent source of dust storms.
